For 100 years, United Way of the Greater Capital Region has mobilized people and resources on the ground to meet basic needs and create lasting change so every individual can thrive.   True to our founding spirit a century ago, whenever there is a need in our community, United Way of the Greater Capital Region (United Way) is there. We bring a comprehensive approach to every challenge, actively listening and responding to local needs on the ground while working with our community partners to address long term solutions.  

Who We Are

United Way is comprised of a group of dedicated nonprofit professionals committed to serving every individual in the nine counties we cover. Our role has evolved from a traditional fundraising organization into a collaborative force that recruits, connects, and partners with passionate individuals and organizations. We work alongside hundreds who share a collective vision for what's possible when we unite our efforts.

It's a solid investment in our local community. Undesignated contributions stay here, supporting hard-working households experiencing economic hardship in Albany, Columbia, Fulton, Greene, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, and Schoharie counties.

This is an efficient way to stretch your gift, supporting multiple agencies with expertise. Agencies are vetted by United Way and meet high standards. We track our dollars, measure success, and report outcomes to you.
