Annual Dolly Day Golf Tournament in Amsterdam raises $25,000 for United Way
More than 140 golfers joined the tournament to help local families
AMSTERDAM, NY — United Way of the Greater Capital Region hosted more than 140 golfers Friday afternoon at the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course for the 21st Annual Dolly Day, also known as the Lazarou Memorial Tournament.
Thanks to the generosity of participants, sponsors and supporters, the event helped raise more than $25,000 to help local families through United Way of the Greater Capital Region. All proceeds will stay in Montgomery County and help provide vital resources for local residents.
For two decades, the Lazarou family has hosted the tradition in honor of Aristotle “Dolly” Lazarou (1925–2005) and Costa Lazarou (1927-2014), both U.S. Navy World War II Veterans, whose legacy of service and generosity continues to inspire the community.
The event brought together golfers from across the Greater Capital Region for a day of friendly competition, community support, and fundraising in support of United Way’s programs that create more opportunities for youth in Montgomery County, including the Summer Meals Collaborative and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
Peter Gannon, President and CEO of United Way of the Greater Capital Region, said,
“Dolly Day is a testament to the power of community. For the last 20 years, the Lazarou family has shared their legacy of service and generosity through this event. Thanks to their dedication, this community has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to support our work at United Way to help close the affordability gap for families who live and work in this community. We are grateful for their continued support.”

Since 2015, the Dolly Day Tournament has also awarded 53 scholarships to graduating seniors in memory of Costa Lazarou.
This year, the scholarship was awarded to Dan Brown, who will attend Fulton–Montgomery Community College in the fall, and to Bryce Greco, who will attend the University of Buffalo.
